A Sabbath Table
Our Parent Night meal broke the rules and you know what? Something shifted.
We have been thinking about Sabbath meals and how we can set the table for a once a week feast. One set apart from all other meals. One we anticipate more than any other. One a bit unconventional but highly enjoyed by all.
As we ponder integrating this observance an unexpected gift was given me by a dinner guest. A cookbook called, Graze. My dear friend, Vanessa recommend I read through it rather than use it as a traditional cookbook for recipes.
As I thumb through the pages I was inspired to try having a less traditional meal with my husband. I pitched him the idea of a grazing dinner concept for our late-night meal and we began to collaborate.
While he ran to the store to grab specialty cheeses and cured meat, I made an enriched version of bucket bread and pesto. From the bucket dough I pinched off two pieces to make flat breads and infused them with truffle olive oil.
He set the table. Even adding some sweet flowers and herbs the girls had selected from the garden in a heap to beautify the table.
As we nibbled juicy peaches coupled with funky cheese we both knew this was exactly what our feasting table ought to be. Very little striving happened to prepare. There’s tons of variety. The flavors are powerful and each item is a delight to the eye. With such an assortment, everyone can sample and create their own flavor combinations too.
Accompanied with bread and wine, candlelight and merriment, the concept for our Sabbath table is born. I cannot wait to try this with the children soon.
